This was recorded as a live mix with audio collaging (found audio, movie and television clips & tape recordings). Follows “Channels” (Fall ’08) and “Unsubstantiated” (Spring ’09), though I’d say it’s more in line with “Channels” in that there is a lot of open space left between songs, sometimes two or three minutes. I like the idea of taking the listener to get lost. It becomes difficult to guess when the next song will begin, or, as is a common and often desired effect in collaging, the listener struggles to understand which layer should be focused on. To where should he lend his ear? Which voice? Drifting, there’s a lot of drifting in this mix, alike “Channels,” which is made up mostly of shorter songs (1:30 to 2:00) and longer segments of confusion, layering and “drowning.” This is best taken in the early morning. Most importantly, though, while “on the go”, preferably “behind the wheel.” My belated birthday gift to you.
